The session will examine Black women’s health disparities through the historical lens of slavery and the ways in which Black women's health was exploited, using analyses to identify critical indicators and warning signs. Additionally, this session will draw upon insights into the firsthand experiences of black enslaved women and the nuances in the explicit care they received. Black women are met with overt expressions of medical racism, creating impediments to a safe journey into their health. As a result, this session aims to examine Black women’s health disparities through the history of slavery and the ways in which (enslaved) black women's health was exploited. By the end of the session, the goal is to provide actionable insights that will challenge historical narratives and describe key factors for an equitable health landscape for black women.
